Do you want to know how today's most modern printing plants work? With the “Media Executive Pass” you have exclusive access to a guided tour through the production facilities of the “Märkische Verlags- und Druck-Gesellschaft” in Potsdam.
Pressedruck Potsdam GmbH, as the publishing and printing house of the Märkische Verlags mbH Potsdam, operates one of the largest newspaper printing plants in the area of the states of the former East Germany. It is there that, at the beginning of the 1990s, a modern printing centre was opened with ca. 12,000 square metres and a total of 64 installed printing units. Müller Martini supplied the mailroom equipment.
In 2014 it was decided to invest in new, innovative technology for the production of printed matter in the Rhine format. The KBA Commander CL, including softproofing, closed-loop control, automatic plate changing systems and Techniweb washing equipment, represents the technological cutting-edge in newspaper printing.
Newspapers, supplements and magazines are produced on two presses in the Nordic and Rhine format – on request with stitching and 3-sided trimming or addressing.
Printing of publisher's as well as outside products
The publisher's main own product is the "Märkische Allgemeine" (MAZ), a regional subscription newspaper with a wide reach in Germany (Brandenburg State). It is published in the Rhine format (350 x 510 mm).
15 local editions of the Märkische Allgemeine bring exciting and varied news directly to the reader's breakfast table every day. The newspaper's area of distribution extends from Prignitz in north Brandenburg to Fläming district in the south. With 14,000 square kilometres, this is the largest area of circulation of any regional subscription newspaper in Germany.
Another of the publisher's own products published in the Rhine format is the "WochenSpiegel" advertising freesheet. This is published weekly in 14 editions with a total circulation of about 620,000 copies.
In addition, printing is done in Potsdam on a KBA Commander of part-circulations of the prestigious national daily newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine" (F.A.Z.) and of the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" (FAS) in the Nordic format (400 x 570 mm) as well as a part-circulation of the daily business and financial newspaper “Handelsblatt” in the Nordic tabloid format.
